Outbuildings

As you’d expect from an ex-farmhouse, Wood Farm is complemented by a useful variety of barns and outbuildings.

The Suffolk Barn
The main tall Suffolk barn (which is also accessed by a second driveway entrance and has a hard-standing parking area in front of it) was originally built in the 16th century and is thought to have been extensively rebuilt in the late 1700s/early 1800s. It is a beautiful old building with cobbled floors in parts. In recent years, it has mainly been the home to an old Riley.

The Old Dairy
The long low barn was the old dairy. It is currently rated as a business premises, though it could be reincorporated into being part of the main house subject to planning permission.

From 2014 to 2024, this building was used as an office to run a global award-winning travel company. It accommodated ten office staff at its peak. There is a large main open office, including a small kitchen area at entrance end, and a smaller office at the far end (with door to separate from main room), plus a separate shower room with toilet. There is also a roomy store cupboard. It’s a lovely light and airy place to work, and is kept comfortable whether it’s cold or hot, thanks to the two air-source heaters/coolers.

We have ‘fibre to the premises’ so our broadband facility is excellent, making it ideal for business purposes. We got planning permission to make a larger parking area behind the main Suffolk barn, using the second entrance so staff cars didn’t impact on our private space by the house.

More recently, the Old Dairy has been (and still is) an artist’s office and studio.

Other barns
There is also a very large barn spilt into : a rustic workshop (was a stable), a storage barn (was a stable), a gorgeous modernised room with windows all along the longest wall, with a small room off this, plus another storage area adjacent to this, and yet another room currently used (or not!) as a gym.
